Collection includes: letter to Mr. Lorimer Worden from Berchem at the University of Notre Dame, concerning a bust of Abraham Lincoln to be cast in bronze, 1909. An undated note on the back of the letter from Worden's son, James E. Worden, states that a cast of Lincoln's face by Leonard W. Volk, an Ill. sculpture, and a cast of Lincoln's [right] hand was given to Lorimer Worden by Berchem as a gift. Also, there are newspaper clippings (3) about the bronze bust and cast of Lincoln's right hand by Volk done in 1860. The clippings are dated 1965 and 1967. One clipping is an undated [modern] copy of an 1860 clipping. The Clarke Historical Library has the bronze cast of Lincoln's right hand done by Volk in 1860 and cast by Berchem.

Leonard Wells Volk (1828-1895) was an American sculptor. Born November 7, 1828 in Wellstown (now Wells), New York, he was one of twelve children of Garrett and Elizabeth Gesner Volk. At sixteen he began work as a marble cutter in his father's shop in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
